How does it work?

  • The idea

The first step is to send me an email with your ideas. Whether you already know very clearly what you want, or whether you just know you want "something". I'm open to a lot but always try to find some sort of story in what I draw. Something funny, or something endearing, to make it really into something personal and special.

Whether you want a portrait of yourself, your grandma or your dog it really helps me to know some things about the personality of the person who will be portrayed and to see as many photos of them as possible. Both close-up photos of the face as "action photos".

Usually this step requires some back and forth, where I will listen to your ideas and make suggestions.

  • The sketch

After we've agreed on a plan I will make a quote for you. As every illustration is completely different I don't have a fixed price list.

Once we've agreed on a price I will start sketching. If it's a small portrait (character in front of a plain background) without too many details I will usually immediately start out in colour.

If the illustration is slightly more complicated I will make a black-and-white sketch first. During this stage there will still be an opportunity to ask for small adjustments.

  • Colour please!

After the sketch gets approved I will start working in colour! After this there will still be one opportunity to ask for small adjustments. And then the print will be printed!

All of my illustrations are printed on Hahnemühle Museum Etching paper, using an Epson Fine Art Printer. This means you will receive a museum quality print, of which the colours won't fade for at least 200 years! If you'd like to know more about my creative process please feel free to send me a message!
